Back in Bloom: Gardens, Sunshine and Pride – A June Update

Good Morning BC Blog fans!  First and foremost – we’re sorry for our radio silence over the past couple of months! Our last post was back in April, and while we always aim to keep you updated, we’ve been completely swept up in what has turned out to be a gloriously busy and beautifully sunny start to the season.

The warm weather we've been blessed with over the past few weeks has allowed us to throw ourselves wholeheartedly into what we love most – creating, transforming, and nurturing gardens. It’s been a flurry of activity, from intimate city courtyards to sweeping country lawns, all coming to life under the golden light of spring turning to summer. We’re thrilled to have helped so many clients bring their outdoor visions to reality.

But now, with a breather and a cup of tea in hand, we’re back at the keyboard and delighted to reconnect with you. And what better time to do so than June, a month bursting with life, colour, and meaning – not just in the garden, but in society at large.

The Joy of June – Growth, Colour, and Celebration

June is a highlight in the gardening calendar. Everything is lush, the days are long, and plants are at their peak performance. But beyond the blooms, June holds a special cultural significance: it’s LGBTQ+ Pride Month, a time to reflect on how far we’ve come, to celebrate the richness of diversity, and to stand in support of equality in all its forms.

We believe gardens are for everyone. No matter your background or identity, your outdoor space should be a sanctuary that reflects and embraces who you are. Nature doesn't judge – it simply grows, adapts, and blossoms in its own glorious way. And as gardeners, that lesson isn't lost on us.

So this month, in addition to sharing our latest green-fingered adventures, we’re proudly waving the rainbow flag alongside the many who are celebrating Pride across the UK and beyond.

Pride and the Garden: A Natural Partnership

As we step into Pride Month, we’re reminded of the deep connection between gardens and personal expression. Much like fashion or art, a garden can be a mirror of the soul – a place where creativity, identity, and values come to life in colour, structure, and scent.

Throughout history, gardens have been places of refuge, healing, and resistance. From secret meeting spots in times of oppression to public spaces that welcome all walks of life, gardens have long offered sanctuary and freedom. Today, as we plant and plan, we’re also planting the seeds of a more inclusive and compassionate world.

For those in the LGBTQ+ community, the garden can be especially meaningful. Whether it's a private retreat, a community space, or a celebration of chosen family, the garden is where many have found peace, pride, and belonging.

How You Can Celebrate Pride in Your Garden

Want to join us in honouring Pride Month through your own patch of green? Here are a few joyful ideas:

🌈 Plant a Rainbow

Design a border or container display using flowers of the Pride flag colours. Think red geraniums, orange zinnias, yellow snapdragons, green ferns, blue lobelias, and purple petunias. It’s a vibrant tribute that brightens any space.

🏳️‍🌈 Fly the Flag

Add a Pride flag to your garden – whether it’s strung up with your bunting, draped on a fence, or incorporated into your plant labels. Show your support and let your garden speak your values.

🌸 Support LGBTQ+ Creators

There are many talented LGBTQ+ garden designers, artists, and makers out there. Consider buying from or supporting businesses that celebrate diversity in the horticultural world.

🌍 Make It Inclusive

Think about accessibility, sensory elements, and welcoming design when creating your space. Pride is about inclusivity – your garden can embody that spirit by being a place where everyone feels comfortable.

Looking Ahead – More Sunshine, More Stories

We’re so excited for what the rest of the season holds. With more sunshine forecast and even more garden projects underway, there’s plenty to share in the weeks to come. We’ll be posting more frequently now that the initial rush has settled a little – so keep an eye out for design tips, seasonal planting guides, and behind-the-scenes looks at our current work.

And if you’ve been inspired to add a splash of Pride to your own space, or want help transforming your garden into a place of joy and comfort – we’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re dreaming of a wildlife haven, a social space, or a tranquil escape, we’re here to make it a reality.

In Closing

To all of our readers, clients, friends, and fellow garden lovers – thank you for your patience while we’ve been busy behind the scenes. We’re thrilled to be back on the blog, sharing our passion and connecting with this wonderful community once again.

And to our LGBTQ+ readers and friends: we see you, we celebrate you, and we stand with you this Pride Month and every month. Let your true colours bloom – in your life, in your garden, and in the world.

Here’s to diversity, sunshine, and a summer full of growth. 🌿🌈
